The Florida Literacy Coalition (FLC) conference was held from May 8 - May 10, 2024 at the Orlando Marriott, Lake Mary, Florida.
Learn to Read (LTR) had a fantastic conference: 3 of our students’ essays were published in the book, “Pathways”; one of our students, Mary Floyd, read her essay, “Bubble,” to the Opening Session of conference attendees. Congratulations to Mary Floyd and her dedicated tutor, Barbara Horton.
Thank you to FLC, our tutors, students, supporters, and LTR staff for a wonderful experience.
If you would like to support LTR and allow us to continue to help students like Mary, please consider making a donation to Learn to Read of St. Johns County, Inc., 70 South Dixie Highway, St. Augustine, Florida 32084

Alex Noel is a special needs student who has worked extensively with his tutor to achieve his goals of securing his driving and boating licenses, as well as tremendously increasing his reading, comprehension, and writing skills.

After working with his tutor, David Alvarez, Jhonny completed his applications and practiced for numerous resident interviews.
In July, 2024, Jhonny started his residency program in Detroit, Michigan!

“The turning point in my life is when I decided that I wanted to get serious about reading and making myself a better person. I graduated from high school in 2004. Even though I have a diploma, I never learned to read. This was no longer working for me. I was losing job possibilities because I couldn’t read.
I am now reading! I have been working with my tutor twice a week. I have a new job with better benefits. I have started reading recipes because I love to cook. I am also reading Bible verses.
If I can do this, you can too! Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from accomplishing your goals!”

Lan Ho is a Vietnamese mother of two who first came to Learn to Read (LTR) eleven years ago to learn conversational English. She had a third grade level of education in Vietnam. Not only did Lan achieve her goal and start speaking English, she also went on to study for and pass her U.S. citizenship exam.
In the years since she was first at LTR, Lan opened and continues to operate her own nail salon, Linda's Spa. Now Lan has returned to LTR to prepare for her GED examination! We are very proud of Lan and grateful that LTR has been such a help to her in achieving her goals.
