Tutors

Tutors complete a one-day training course. Courses are held frequently and teach tutors how to help adult students improve their literacy skills or learn English as a second language (ESOL).

To participate, tutors should plan on volunteering two or three hours per week. This time will be spent planning lessons and working with students. Learn to Read asks tutors to commit to volunteering for six months. A stable relationship with a dedicated tutor helps students stay motivated as they fit difficult lessons into already busy lives. We also ask our tutors to record and report their tutor hours monthly.

All materials are provided at no cost to the tutor or student.
